Fax software allows you to send and receive fax messages directly from your computer without having to have a fax machine. All you need is the modem and the telephone line or the cable to be hooked up. You can fax from Word or any other Windows software programs by using a printer/driver. It is ideal for personal or small business use. Once your fax is created you can send it at anytime and incoming faxes are stored on your program to be viewed, printed or sent at your convenience. The faxes may be sent to other fax modems as well as traditional fax machines. If your computer's connection online is via DSL or cable you can still use a fax program as long as your 56k modem and telephone line is still connected. Faxing does not go through the internet; your computer is simply dialing a telephone number to reach a fax machine.
